How do I model a suspended membrane roof structure with line supports?

Answer

A suspended, linearly supported membrane roof structure can be modeled in RFEM using the RF‑FORM‑FINDING add-on module. To do this, define:

  1. Load-bearing structure around the membrane roof
  2. Boundary elements of the membrane consisting of cable elements with the corresponding form-finding settings
  3. Membrane between the boundary elements with the corresponding form-finding settings
  4. Support boundary conditions for transferring the loads
  5. Load case with the "Form-finding" action category to describe the form-finding loads in addition to the prestress
