Hexenbesen Tower in Harz, Germany

A new tourist attraction and adventure park is being built in the district of Nordhausen, Germany. The centerpiece of this project will be the “Hexenbesen” (Witch's Broom) lookout tower, the structural design of which was carried out by Dlubal customer ibr Tragwerk Barth+Rugenstein GmbH.

The tower is constructed from twisted steel struts on a reinforced concrete base. The base incorporates the functional areas of the building, while a staircase and elevator take visitors to the two viewing platforms.

A special highlight are the two tube slides, one of which descends almost 40 m (131.2 ft) from the upper platform. Technical equipment is installed on the top third platform.

The basic frame structure of the counter-rotating steel columns consists of 16 right-turning columns opposed by 32 left-turning columns. This creates the optical impression of a broom. This interesting project by Dlubal customer ibr Tragwerk Barth+Rugenstein GmbH was calculated using RFEM.
