1.Who are you?
I’m Moisés Martínez.
2. What studies did you do, and how did you come to Dlubal?
I studied civil engineering, because I have always been very interested in construction and the creative part behind engineering. After graduating, I began to develop my skills in dealing with people, taking charge of the commercial part of a software development engineering company in Spain for 5 years. Finally, I applied for a job at Dlubal Software and have been a member of this great team since February 2021.
3. What are your tasks?
I’m in charge of making and managing offers to our clients and interested contacts, collecting their suggestions, conducting webinars and presenting our products and maintaining fluid communication with our users.
4. What is important in your job?
It is very important to know the preferences of each of our clients, as well as their needs and circumstances, in order to be able to advise them in the best possible way. To put it in some way, make them feel at home.
5. What do you look forward to when you come into work in the morning?
My day-to-day is very rewarding, since I am in contact with our clients, some of whom we have known for many years, so the treatment is of a family nature. It is also very exciting to contact new interested contacts and see how we can meet their needs.
6. What do you like about construction/BIM/statics in general?
For me, the most exciting thing about structural engineering is understanding the concept, not so much the detail, which will come later, but being able to simplify the structural idea as much as possible, understand how loads are distributed, how the structure works, almost as if was an organic element, beyond the subsequent normative verifications or detail design.
7. What is your hobby? How do you combine it with your job?
In my free time, I paint watercolours and oils, it is an activity that relaxes me a lot after a busy day.
8. What advice would you give to young civil engineers and graduates for the future?
They should not hesitate to use our software in their final degree and master's projects, since it will allow them to use "real" tools used in engineering offices. Likewise during their studies, since they will be able to understand the theoretical concepts much better if they apply them to practical structural models, and, of course, they should not hesitate to ask questions, this is how they learn best.
9. What is your favourite building?
I don't really have a favourite building to use, since very interesting information could be obtained from each project. I find fascinating buildings like La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain or the Roman Coliseum.
10. Which project designed with our software do you like the most?
It is really lucky to have great users who develop great projects with our software. I have a certain predilection for unique and innovative bridges and walkways, list 3:
- Bow River Pedestrian Bridge in Banff, Canada. This structural solution fits perfectly with its surroundings, while using a sustainable material that will give much to talk about in the coming years: wood.
- Timber Footbridge in Anaklia, Georgia. It is one of the longest wooden bridges in the world with a length of more than 500 meters.
- World's Longest Suspension Footbridge in Dolní Morava, Czech Republic. In May, 2022, a new Sky Bridge footbridge was opened in the Dolní Morava area (the Czech Republic), which became the longest footbridge in the world with a length of 721 m.
