Sustainability Meets Innovation in Freiburg: Forestry Office Building 🌍🌲

In Freiburg, Germany, the new forestry office building is a perfect example of sustainable design in action. The structural design was carried out by Ingenieurbüro Wirth Haker using RFEM 6 software, ensuring optimal performance and precision in timber construction.

The building features a reinforced concrete base with three upper floors made of timber structures, using locally sourced hardwood for the supporting framework. The facade combines glass and timber, and timber is used extensively inside, including for the elevator shaft.

One of the most innovative aspects of the design is the column-free floor plan, supported by multi-frame structures that brace the exterior walls. This approach reduces the need for internal columns, with only six columns used for vertical load transfer. The structure is further supported by slender BauBuchen ribbed slabs.

This project demonstrates how sustainability and advanced engineering come together in a timber construction masterpiece, designed using RFEM 6 software to meet both functional and aesthetic goals.
