📚 Master's Thesis: Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Unreinforced Masonry Buildings Using the Capacity Spectrum-Based Method by Vishwash Rukwal | Gujarat Technological University, India 🌍
We are proud to share a Master's thesis that uses Dlubal's RFEM 6 software for the Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Unreinforced Masonry (URM) Buildings. This research focuses on the seismic vulnerability of traditional masonry structures, which are widespread in seismic zones IV and V in India, particularly in regions like Jammu and Kashmir.
Key points of the study:
▪️ Finite Element Method (FEM) approach was used for the design and analysis of a two-story URM building.
▪️ Pushover analysis performed in RFEM 6 to understand building behavior under seismic forces.
▪️ Capacity Spectrum Method applied, following Indian standards, to assess the building’s seismic response.
▪️ The study identifies failure modes in URM buildings, contributing to better seismic design practices and enhancing resilience in seismic zones.
This research combines modern analytical techniques with traditional building practices, ensuring the safety, structural integrity, and longevity of masonry buildings in earthquake-prone areas.
Congratulations to Vishwash Rukwal for this insightful contribution to improving structural safety in seismically active regions! 👏
