🌍 World's Longest Timber Footbridge, over Arakil River, Navarre, Spain 🌉
A huge milestone for Madergia and the timber construction industry! Last May, they completed the longest timber footbridge in the world, over the Arakil River in Navarre, Spain. Connecting Etxauri and Ibero, this impressive bridge is 86.8 m (284.8 ft) long, setting a new record in timber footbridge spans.
Key details of the project:
▪️ Design and construction by Madergia, delivered and installed for Construcciones Mariezcurrena.
▪️ The bridge was divided into eight prefabricated sections, transported and assembled with precision on site using a heavy-duty crane.
▪️ Designed in RFEM 6 with an arch structure and no intermediate columns, it weighs 106 metric tons (116.84 U.S. tons) and was assembled on concreted abutments.
This footbridge surpasses previous records held by timber footbridges in Spain, Germany, Canada, China, and Georgia. It’s a groundbreaking achievement for sustainable construction and engineering innovation. 🌲🌍
