🌍 New Project: Hanji House at the 59th Venice Biennale, Italy 🏛️
We're proud to highlight Ergodomus di Franco Piva’s role in engineering the stunning Hanji House, a timber pavilion at the Venice Biennale, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti. This unique structure, made of LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) and OSB panel bracing, blends traditional Korean craftsmanship with modern design, inspired by Hanji paper and the art of origami.
Key features of the Hanji House:
▪️ Four pyramid structures (heights ranging from 5 m / 16.4 ft to 12 m / 39.8 ft) built from LVL and OSB.
▪️ Exterior cladding crafted from mulberry bark, made to mimic Hanji paper.
▪️ The pavilion was carefully designed to respect the historic garden in which it was located and was anchored with concrete weights, avoiding traditional foundations to prevent damage to the surroundings.
▪️ CFD simulations were performed to ensure the stability of the structure, considering the strong wind gusts near the Grand Canal.
▪️ A compact crane was used for precise assembly in the restricted site.
At the end of the exhibition, the pavilion was dismantled as planned, leaving no trace behind.
A true example of innovation and sustainability in timber architecture! 🌱
