The Sages Road Depot in Glenroy, Australia, is an innovative mass timber project that combines glulam trusses, CLT slabs, and hybrid construction techniques. The project showcases advanced timber engineering, a fully coordinated BIM workflow, and detailed FEM analysis in RFEM.🦾
A key challenge was the design of 20 highly complex glulam trusses, each with a unique geometry and height, which required fully customized engineering solutions. Offices were integrated between the lower and upper chords of the trusses, demanding precise structural planning to maintain stability while accommodating functional workspaces.💫
The CLT slabs were designed with large openings to enhance visual connectivity and were engineered to act as rigid diaphragms, ensuring effective load distribution and overall structural stability. The coordination with the local architect, SxWA, and the contractor, Building Engineering, while complying with Eurocode 5, Eurocode 3, and the Australian Building Code, added an additional layer of complexity.📐
Structural analysis and detailing were carried out using RFEM and supported by an advanced BIM process up to LOD 400, enabling seamless collaboration and accurate execution.
