Question

When performing design with PLATE‑BUCKLING, all design checks are fulfilled. Nevertheless, the critical load factor is smaller than 1. Is the design fulfilled or not?

Answer:

This issue is quite possible because the load critical factor is calculated without the influence of plastic reserves - that is, purely elastic.

However, the buckling design according to EN 1993‑1‑5 activates the plastic reserves. The design is thus fulfilled.
