Question

I get the expression "-1.#J" for rigid and hinged limit stiffness. What should I do?

Answer:
The limit stiffnesses for rigid or hinged connections can be determined according to EN 1993‑1‑8 5.2.2.5 (1). The calculation includes the second moment of area of a beam, the span, the modulus of elasticity, and the frame stiffening. As of version 5.19.01, this information can be defined in detail in Table 1.4 under "Classification". Since this information was not available in the previous versions, but is now queried by the calculation kernel, you get the expression "-1.#J".
Open Window 1.4 to fix this. The modulus of elasticity, length, and moment of inertia of the beam are entered automatically. If member divisions are available in the beam, the length may have to be adjusted. It is also necessary to specify the type of stiffening. By default, a stiffened system (Kb = 8) is assumed. After recalculation in the add-on module, the correct limit stiffnesses are obtained.
