Parameter Studies on Computer-Aided Analysis and Design of Point- and Line-Supported Reinforced Concrete Slabs Considering Different Discretization Options for Determination of Yielding Support Conditions

Nowadays, the internal forces of reinforced concrete components are also determined by using programs based on the finite element method. Particular attention should be paid to slabs with irregular edges. The assumption of a rigid support leads to very large restraint moments in the case of reentrant corners or wall offsets, which cannot be covered by reinforcement layers.

It is necessary to analyze what effects have the different discretizations on the overall result. For this purpose, the results of the bending and shear force design of a ceiling slab and beams with differently recorded supports, regarding the required amount of steel, are compared in a project of a concrete structure.

In order to have an informative comparison option, parameter studies are first carried out on "simple" ceiling slabs. With regard to a specific example, the calculation options for slabs with round cutouts and various modeling of beams are analyzed.
