Analysis and Design of Steel, Composite Steel, and Reinforced Concrete Supporting Structure of Silo Considering Economic Efficiency

The plants of the chemical industry, where the production processes for various raw materials take place, often include very complex technical structures. Kilometers of pipelines connect the individual production facilities, in which the chemical processes take place. In most cases, large quantities of chemical liquids are generated and they are placed in spacious containers to be temporarily stored there.

In addition to the production buildings, there are also outdoor plants where such containers are stored. Such an outdoor facility will be the subject of this thesis. A container in the form of a silo should be placed on a free-standing supporting structure and the structure should meet the general requirements for industrial structures. In particular, it is important to ensure that there is sufficient accessibility and that the structure is in the fire resistance class F90.

The objective of the thesis is to analyze the usual types of steel, steel composite and reinforced concrete structures and to check their suitability and cost-efficiency for a silo supporting structure in process manufacturing plants.
