Combined Pile-Raft Foundation – Development of Test Tool

Engineering offices for structural analysis and design are usually not equipped with geotechnical engineering software, especially if the tasks require expert knowledge and special applications in the field of geotechnical analysis, they need to address it to a geotechnical engineering office. However, it is of great interest for the structural engineers to be able to understand, follow, interpret, and check the results of such an analysis...

Unfortunately, the common tools for calculating structures, such as:

  • IT programs, such as 2D and 3D FEA software (for example, plate modules),
  • Technical literature by the German Institute for Standardization (DIN),
  • Other technical literature,

that are available to the engineers for structural analysis, are not sufficient.

This thesis tries to use the above mentioned tools to present the complicated facts of a pile group arrangement with sufficient accuracy, and thus to understand the settlement calculations, and to continue with developing a tool that will be able to perform self-control verification calculations.
