Appliance of Precast Concrete Elements in Tall Buildings

The appliance of precast concrete elements in constructing tall residential buildings has been investigated in this thesis where floors are composed of hollow core slabs. In this thesis, the stability of tall buildings is analyzed while all load bearing and bracing structures are precast concrete elements.

Shear walls are used as a bracing structure. The diaphragm behavior of floors composed of hollow core slabs is investigated. This thesis concentrates on forces in the vertical and horizontal joints between the precast elements.

The appliance of mostly used joint details and connections in Finland are investigated. The connection capacities are calculated by the current Finnish design principles. In addition, the tall building horizontal displacements and dynamic movements caused by wind loading are analyzed.
