Conversion of Tipsport Arena at Prague Exhibition Ground for Library

The complex study project deals with the conversion of an old sports hall at the Exhibition Grounds in Prague, Czech Republic, which is based on a functional change from the irregular occupation of an ice hockey hall to a multi-purpose building with regular use, serving the public as an ice skating rink, gallery, parking lot, library, shopping mall, and others.

As a part of this work, a timber shell roof of the building was designed. It is a combined structure made of glued-laminated beam and a steel supporting structure. The structural 3D model in RFEM was subjected to a deflection analysis and the individual structural components were optimized. The structural details were designed on the basis of the internal forces calculated from the load combinations.
