We’re excited to introduce a new feature in the Steel Joints add-on – the ability to define a shear lug within the Base Plate connection. 🔩
Shear lugs are essential in anchorages when anchor bolts cannot handle the required shear load, as they are typically limited to small to moderate shear forces. Without a shear lug, an uneconomical number of anchors would be needed to transfer the load. The shear lug provides an effective way to transfer high shear forces, reducing the demand for excessive anchor bolts and ensuring a more efficient and safer design. ✅
The shear lug is now fully integrated into the submodel, and considered during the design check according to both the EC3 and AISC standards in RFEM 6.
