FAQ 005429 | How does the ‘Isotropic-FEA’ load transfer surface work?

Question:
How does the "Isotropic-FEA" load transfer surface work?

Answer:

For the Isotropic load transfer (LT) surface, RFEM uses finite element method and creates a submodel. In the FEA submodel, LT surface is substituted by a rigid surface where all the structural elements that are integrated in the surface are substituted by rigid supports. In future implementation, users will have the ability to adjust the support conditions. The support reactions in the FEA submodel are then converted into member loads after running the calculation.

To display the load separately as member loads after running the calculation, activate the "Loads from Distribution Surface" option in the Display Navigator.
