Question

I am obtaining very large deformations for a simple rigid frame. Why?

Answer:

For cross-section area A, a very large value has been entered manually. Extremely high values may lead to numerical problems when solving the equation system.

Check the results with smaller values. Also, check whether the sum of the loading and support forces are equal.

Note:

The automatic calculation of the self-weight is performed by means of the density of the material and surface A. In your example, you obtain very large loads. You can

  • change value A,
  • deactivate the self-weight in the General Data of the load case, or
  • set the material density to zero.
