Presumably, model type 2D -XY is activated. The 2D - XY type is used, for example, for planar plate structures such as slabs, that are stressed perpendicularly to the surface plane. The "Cable" member type cannot be selected for this model type, however.
As soon as the model type is changed, this member type can be selected again.
