Modeling Cross-Laminated Timber Structures 3
Tips & Tricks
Part 3 starts with entering the structural system as a 2D model. One of the advantages when entering the model in RFEM 5 is the choice of the geometry which is completely free. Therefore, it is easily possible to select a structure where re‑entrant rolling corners are given as shown in the picture.
The total length of our system is 8 m, the width is 5.3 m. As both the production and mounting of a plate with the dimensions of 8 m x 5.3 m is not possible, the plate is split in three parts. On the joints it is important to open the connections for the degree of freedom for rotation. In case of a wall‑like component it would be necessary to define also the connection in nx respectively ux according to the selected connecting elements.
The next post will describe the support of the structural system.
