Check out these tips to help you get started with the RFEM program.
RFEM 5 | FEA Structural Analysis Software
RFEM - Powerful, Easy and Intuitive
Further Information
First Steps with RFEM
The structural analysis program RFEM provides structural engineers with a 3D FEA program that meets all requirements in modern civil engineering. Efficient data input and intuitive handling facilitate the modelling of simple and complex structures.
The structural analysis software RFEM is the basis of a modular software system. The basic program RFEM is used to define structures, materials and loads for planar and spatial structural systems consisting of plates, walls, shells and members. The program also allows you to create combined structures as well as to model solid and contact elements.
RFEM calculates deformations, internal forces, stresses, support forces and soil contact stresses. Add-on modules facilitate data input by automatically creating structures and connections, or can be used to carry out further analyses and designs according to various standards.
The modular software concept allows you to compile a program package tailored to your individual needs. It is possible to upgrade the program at any time.
The main program RFEM is also available as a lower-priced 2D version.
Building Information Modeling (BIM)
Through numerous interfaces, RFEM realises the perfect interaction between CAD and structural analysis in Building Information Modeling (BIM). For example, RFEM allows bidirectional data exchange with the programs Tekla Structures, Autodesk Revit and Bentley ISM.
“Great praise again, I really enjoy my structural analyses with RFEM. Your advertising slogan is actually true.”
Advantages of Spatial FEA Model
"The spatial FEA model offered very good options to analyze and design the load-bearing behavior of a special complex structure in a verifiable way. Due to the extremely high safety requirements concerning the most famous landmark of Germany, the Brandenburg Gate, it was necessary to mount the support structure in two stages. The specific mounting situations could be modeled very well in RFEM."

Important Principles in Wind Simulation
This article demonstrates how to start wind simulation in RWIND 2; the required input data and certain principles also need to be controlled.
- How can I exchange data between RFEM 5 / RSTAB 8 and Tekla Structures 2023?
- I get a warning that a file created with RFEM, RSTAB, or RSECTION contains a virus or a Trojan horse. What should I do?
- I design pipelines using the RF-PIPING Design add-on module. I have created a new prestress load case and loaded the piping with longitudinal displacement. Is it possible to add this new load case to combinations that are generated automatically?
