What you can take away from this course:
- Module 1: introduces the NDS, highlighting key references and applicable provisions. It also provides foundational knowledge of material models and wood species used in U.S. timber design.
- Module 2: focuses on material modeling and practical design through two hands-on examples. The first covers 2D material models, including material properties, Poisson's ratio, orthotropic behavior, and surface orientation. The second follows a continuous beam through the complete design workflow, from modeling and loading to design checks, results evaluation, and section optimization.
- Module 3: guides you through two detailed modeling examples: a curved member and a roof truss. Topics include supports, loading, effective lengths, design configurations, lateral torsional buckling, and interpretation of static and design results, helping build confidence in applying NDS requirements in RFEM 6.
- Module 4: introduces a 3D timber model incorporating CLT surfaces and framing members. You will explore multilayer surfaces, laminate theory, hinges and releases, creep effects, and design evaluation, providing practical experience with modern timber structural systems.
