We provide hints and tips to help you get started with the RFEM program.
Import Internal Forces in RSECTION
Video
First Steps with RFEM
Description
This video shows how to import internal forces in RSECTION. RSECTION offers the possibility - in addition to the manual definition of internal forces - to import internal forces from RSTAB or RFEM.
In RSECTION you must first create a load case before you can import internal forces. Furthermore, you must have saved the relevant RSTAB or RFEM file with results. In the 'Import internal forces' dialog you can then select the source model and location as well as the load case or load combination from which to import the internal forces.

- I would like to model a frame beam with a tapered cross-section. For this, I have created a member with the cross-section distribution "Tapered at member start". However, the resulting cross-section is displayed incorrectly in the rendering. What is the problem here?
- The load distribution on my members looks different when using the Load Transfer surface vs. the Load Wizards. What is the reason?
- My beam has a continuous lateral support and therefore lateral torsional buckling (LTB) is not a concern. How do I define the effective length?
- I received an error message “Surface of incompatible type... (Surface in upper plane of building story must be of ‘Load transfer’ type)” when running the calculation. What is the reason?
- How can I efficiently define line hinges on several surfaces?
- How do I include the overstrength factor(s) Ωo in the ASCE 7 load combinations?
- How do I include the overstrength factor(s), Ωo in the ASCE 7 load combinations?
- How do I include the redundancy factor(s) ρ in the ASCE 7 load combinations?
- My live load is less than or equal to 100 psf. How do I consider the reduced load factor in the ASCE 7 load combinations?
- I do not see the seismic load cases in my generated ASCE 7 load combinations (COs). How do I add them?
