Rib Design Using Result Beams

Although the design of downstand beams is usually carried out on a member model, a result beam can be used to perform the design on a model with only surfaces.

The result beam integrates the internal forces acting along its axis in a defined area. These internal forces and the cross‑section assigned to the result beam are used for the design. It is important to run the result beam axis through the centroid of the regarded cross-section, since the internal forces under consideration of the respective lever arm are to be integrated.

If the cross-section of a T-beam varies during modeling, the location of the result beam axis can be parameterized. If you define the axis location in relation to the cross-section parameters of the result beam, the last step is to change the cross-section. The result beam axis is then aligned automatically.
