The Glass Design add-on allows for the integrated design of glass panels both within the overall facade model and as stand-alone models, while RSECTION calculates user-defined cross-section properties. The “Member Loads from Area Loads” wizard significantly reduces the amount of manual data entry by automatically converting surface loads on the facade into member loads. Reliable Calculation of Folded Plates

One of the most technically challenging tasks at ABACUS GmbH is the structural design of facade components made of three-dimensionally folded plates. Such geometries can only be modeled using 3D structural analysis programs.

With RFEM 6, this challenge is solved directly within the 3D modeling environment. After importing the IFC file from the CAD system, Patrick Sturm was able to immediately reproduce the three-dimensional geometry of the folded plate in RFEM and then perform the FE analysis as well as a design according to standards. This capability is a decisive advantage for ABACUS when performing the transfer of geometrically complex facade projects.

Parallel CAD and Structural Analysis Workflow

ABACUS GmbH operates both as a structural engineering and a design office — therefore, structural analysis and CAD design tasks have to be carried out in parallel rather than sequentially.
