Point Cloud

This object contains a set of one or more points arbitrarily located in 3D space. These points can then be used for various purposes – for example, as the source of flowing particles in the calculation of transient flow, as the points for generating streamlines, and so on. The new point cloud can be created graphically or using a dialog box, as shown in the image New Point Cloud.

Graphical tools for creating this object allow you to generate points in the form of a rectangular or circular grid and place them easily in the desired location, as shown in the image New Point Cloud Graphically.

In the "Point Cloud" section in the "Edit Bar," you can define the type of "Point Cloud": Rectangular or segment. You can move or rotate the "Point Cloud" object in the work window; more information about the model manipulation is available in Chapter Manipulate Model. In this section, you can also set the number of points that make up the point cloud.

The second option is to create a New Point Cloud via Dialog Box.

Here, in addition to the same settings for the type and number of points, the size of the "point cloud" is also set. On the second tab Position, there is a manual setting of the position of the "Point Cloud" in the work space and the "Scale" of the object.

"Point Cloud" can be used as a source for "Flowing Particles" or for the "Stream Line" generation; the results can be seen in the image Point Cloud Results.
