Influence of Basic Reinforcement on Required Reinforcement in Shear Force Design

The higher the basic reinforcement defined in RF‑CONCRETE Surfaces, the higher the required reinforcement determined by the add-on module. What is the problem here?


Answer:

In the module, there are options for reinforcement, which have to be taken into account for the shear force design. The design shear resistance VRd,c is affected by the applied longitudinal reinforcement. The options allow you to specify which longitudinal reinforcement should be used to perform the shear force design. The shear force design can be performed by applying the following reinforcement:

  • Calculated required reinforcement
  • Maximum value from the required or provided reinforcement
  • Automatic increase of the longitudinal reinforcement so that the shear reinforcement is avoided

If, for example, the second option is selected and shear reinforcement can be avoided with the basic reinforcement, the basic reinforcement is selected and output as the required reinforcement.
