Generating Help Nodes for Dimension

In RFEM and RSTAB, you can add user‑defined dimension lines to a structural model. When creating these dimension lines, click the objects (for example, end nodes of a line, members, and so on) that represent the reference points of the dimension. If you want to add a dimension line free from the structure previously defined in the model, you have to create an additional free "help node" that acts as a reference object for the new dimension.

With program version x.06.3039 of RFEM 5 and RSTAB 8, you can generate these help nodes for the dimension directly when entering the dimensions. To create a help node for the dimension, you can select the relevant "Generate help node" option in the dialog box for a new dimension. In the graphic window, you can then click the location on which the help node is to be generated.

The generated help nodes are listed in Table 1.1 Nodes, provided with the corresponding comment, and can be selected using the "Select Special..." function, if required.

For example, this option is useful when you need to create chain dimensioning for free surface reinforcement defined in RF‑CONCRETE Surfaces (see the image). It is impossible to use the corner points of the individual reinforcement areas to define a new dimension without creating a help node.
