This article describes how a flat slab of a residential building is modeled in RFEM 6 and designed according to Eurocode 2. The plate is 24 cm thick and is supported by 45/45/300 cm columns at distances of 6.75 m in both the X and Y directions (Image 1). The columns are modeled as elastic nodal supports by determining the spring stiffness based on the boundary conditions (Image 2). C35/45 concrete and B 500 S (A) reinforcing steel are selected as the materials for the design.
It is necessary to design some structures in different configurations. It may be that an aerial work platform must be analyzed in its position on the ground as well as in the middle and in the extended position. Since such tasks require the creation of several models, which are almost identical, updating all the models with just one mouse click is a considerable relief.
The parts lists give information about which and how many parts are necessary for creating a building. They form the basis for identifying the needs and purchasing the components. Parts lists can be created in design modules, such as RF‑/STEEL EC3, RF‑/TIMBER Pro, and so on. Furthermore, a customized parts list can be created with the RF-COM/RS-COM interface.
RF-/STEEL EC3 performs the classification, cross‑section designs, serviceability limit state designs, and fire resistance designs of members. For each design, the program shows a result table with the relevant values and classification numbers, including information regarding the respective standard clause. In order to identify the conjunction of various standards easily, there is a final design equation, including all terms, at the end of the table.
