Modeling Tapers for Hall Frames

Tapers are often done using cut beam sections. When modeling, however, you have to consider certain things for checking cross‑sections and stability.

The start and end cross‑sections must have the same number of stress points; that is, the same cross‑section shape. For example, it is impossible to define the section at the start as an I‑section and at the end as a cut beam section.

Furthermore, when using the general method according to Eurocode 3, it should be noted that in some countries, this is only allowed for I-sections.

Therefore, we recommend always defining tapered cross-sections as parameterized I-sections (IS).

Incidentally, the plate thicknesses can be taken directly from rolled cross-sections and adjusted, if necessary.
