Wiele kamiennych pomników na terenie stanowiska archeologicznego Angkor, wpisanego na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO, jest obecnie ruinami. Stan zachowanych zabytków szybko się pogarsza.
Dlatego międzynarodowi eksperci intensywnie badają przyczyny złego stanu technicznego tych ważnych zabytków i starają się znaleźć odpowiednie rozwiązania, aby je uratować. Czeski zespół badawczy uczestniczy również w ratowaniu tych zabytków w Angkorze, w ramach pięcioletniego projektu badawczego "Obrazowanie termiczne i analiza strukturalna pomników z piaskowca w Angkorze".
Głównym celem projektu jest analiza obciążenia konstrukcji kamiennych' zmianami temperatury otoczenia oraz wpływu tego obciążenia na bezpieczeństwo statyczne zabytków. Oprócz badań przeprowadzonych bezpośrednio w Angkorze, symulacje numeryczne zachowania się konstrukcji kamiennych obciążonych oddziaływaniami zewnętrznymi zmiany temperatury, również stanowi część projektu.
Do utworzenia modeli numerycznych i przeprowadzenia analizy statyczno -wytrzymałościowej wykorzystano program RFEM firmy Dlubal Software do analizy i obliczeń MES.
Projekt urządzenia filtrującego/suszącego wraz z mieszadłem wymagał kompletnej analizy naprężeń i odkształceń w programie RFEM. Złożone modelowanie konstrukcji, która miała 1424 powierzchnie, 158 brył i 425 prętów, stanowiło szczególne wyzwanie projektowe.
Projekt Eden w Kornwalii, UK, to kompleks dwóch biomów, obejmujący kilkanaście kopuł i ogrodów zewnętrznych. Wewnątrz biomów znajduje się kilkanaście tysięcy gatunków roślin pochodzących z wielu różnych stref klimatycznych i środowisk, które są pokazywane na wystawach oraz są przedmiotem badań. Biom tropikalny został zbudowany w drugim etapie rozwoju projektu Eden. W środku utrzymywana jest temperatura i wilgotność charakterystyczna dla rejonów tropikalnych, a rośnie tam ponad 1,000 odmian roślin.
