Customer Project

This project is about the construction of an elevator shaft to replace the existing staircase and provide access to the underpass. The shaft was made of surface components consisting of reinforced concrete, ensuring its stability and durability with control of cracking at the same time.

Model Parameters

Model

The French Dlubal customer E.T.L Structures, specializing in complex construction projects in structural and civil engineering, was responsible for the shaft design.

Shaft Modeling

The shaft was completely modeled using the relevant material, specifying the required thicknesses. The basic structural element in this model is the vertical surface support at the floor slab level, which provides a stable base for the shaft. The structure is horizontally supported by line supports along the Y-axis, defining the active connection to the existing underpass. This way, the design of the structural system ensures that the shaft remains stable even under high loading.

Load Application

The structure was designed to withstand different loads. The pressure from the surrounding soil was taken into account to avoid any settlement or deformation of the shaft. Furthermore, the presence of groundwater creates additional pressure, which was also taken into account in the structural design to avoid any problem of impermeability. When calculating the load transfer, dynamic and static loads from the platform and railway operation were also applied to the structure and taken into account accordingly. Finally, the forces transferred by the elevator structure – whether due to daily operation, weather conditions such as snow and wind, or extraordinary events – were evaluated to ensure the overall safety of the shaft.

The main reason for using RFEM 6 in the modeling and design of the entire shaft structure was the verification of results. The "Concrete Design" add-on was used for a precise design of the reinforced concrete surfaces.
