Recently, girders with perforated web plates have been increasingly used in facade construction. Perforated beams of this type are popular because of their transparency and filigree appearance. However, due to the hole weakening, such beams are more unstable than plate girders.
The usual buckling analysis according to DIN 18800, Part 3, cannot be used here, because it exclusively applies to unperforated sheets. Therefore, the corresponding stability analysis is carried out by approximations or according to the FE method.
