Coordinate Systems of Elastic Surface Foundations for Contact Stresses

Should the elastic surface foundation of the contact stresses σz be relative to a global or a local coordinate system?

Answer:

Elastic surface foundations always refer to the local coordinate system of the surface.

You can display the local coordinate systems using the shortcut menu: right-click the surface, then select the "Local Axis Systems on/off" option.
