Entering Sway Bracing in RFEM or RSTAB

How can I consider a sway bracing in CRANEWAY?

Answer:
Entering a sway bracing as a structure is currently not possible in CRANEWAY. However, you can determine an equivalent spring in RFEM or RSTAB, which can then be considered as lateral support in CRANEWAY. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Model the sway bracing in RFEM or RSTAB.
  2. Apply the unit load 1kN at the location of the lateral support.
  3. In this way, determine the nodal deformation in global Y for each position of the lateral support.
  4. Calculate the equivalent spring from the determined deformation and the load (see the image).
Note:
This method is not recommended in technical literature. The reason is that the spring stiffnesses change for each wheel position and that the axial force load of the crane runway girder in its capacity as a truss flange is still not taken into account in the design.
