Two definition types are available for the generation of soil layers from boreholes using the constrained modulus method:
Internally according to the solution of RF-SOILIN in RFEM 5
- The soil layers beneath each surface element to be analyzed is internally approximated from the boreholes.
- This solution corresponds to the method already used in RFEM 5 in the RF-SOILIN add-on module to determine soil layers.
- This solution requires less calculation time during meshing. However, the determined layer boundary surfaces are not visible.
By generating and meshing 3D solids
- The soil layers are created from boreholes by generating the soil solids, like in the 3D solution, with NURBS surfaces as layer boundary surfaces.
- The soil solids are visible and meshed. The 3D elements are not calculated. Only the soil material is derived from them.
- This solution requires more calculation time during meshing. The determined layer boundary surfaces are visible.
The selection is made by activating or deactivating the "Generate soil solids" option.
