First Steps

The Structure Stability add-on supports stability analyses of all types of structures. By determining

  • Critical loads using critical load factors and
  • Corresponding deformations,

it is possible to draw conclusions about the stability behavior of a structural component (buckling, lateral-torsional buckling, flexural-torsional buckling) or a structural system, and use them for subsequent analysis:

  • Determination of imperfections
  • Determination of effective lengths and buckling loads of members subjected to compression
  • Derivation of structural measures

The calculations can be performed using linear or nonlinear methods and applied equally to member, shell, and solid elements. Axial forces due to initial prestressing can be taken into account, as can nonlinearities due to failing members and supports, as well as material nonlinearities.

These and other functions that support you in performing stability analyses are described in the following.
