Today, six months after joining Dlubal in Leipzig, Fabian works as a Solution Engineer in the Technical Support department, helping users to understand complex models, solve problems and put structural projects on a solid footing. His day is anything but routine. Instead of standardized support answers, his work is characterized by individual challenges, technical depth, and real impact.
Calculate. Understand. Solve.
Fabian's day usually starts around 8 a.m. with a cup of coffee, a glance at his emails, and team news. And with a model that doesn't calculate. He checks the settings, draws parallels to previous cases, and finally finds the crucial hook. This used to be his daily routine at the university. Today he uses it to solve real problems for real people.
A phone call interrupts the rhythm: the results of a slab-wall connection seem implausible. Fabian analyzes the model live with the customer, asks questions, evaluates options. Finally, the aha moment comes - and the customer says with relief: “Ahh, now I understand – thank you!” For Fabian, these are the best moments, because he knows he has just paved the way for the finished building.
During the lunch break, everyone eats together, laughs, and discusses FEM, favorite memes, or a current customer project. “For us, support doesn't mean sitting alone in front of a screen. It means working together on user projects.” The team spirit is palpable and communication is a given.
Brainstorming, Sketches, Workflow
The afternoon is all about strategy. Fabian attends a meeting on extending the design of steel connections to larger bolt diameters. Standards, research, real project requirements—everything is on the table. At the same time, a customer contacts him with an idea for a new feature. Fabian thinks about it, considers possible solutions, creates first sketches, and discusses the implementation with the development department. Shortly before the end of the day, he stops by his colleagues' desks—just to see what they are working on. “Sharing is very important here. There is a lot to do—but there is also time for fun and community. I think that's very important.”
What Fabian appreciates most about his job is the variety and responsibility. “I used to think that support means a hotline. Now I know that support means being in a key position.” As a Solution Engineer, you're not just the first point of contact for questions—you're part of the innovation process. When you dive into a topic, you quickly become the go-to person on the team. Professional exchange is as much a part of the job as creativity and initiative. “And once you've mastered a topic, your colleagues come to you for advice—just like they did with me after two weeks.”
The personal impact should not be underestimated either. Fabian sums it up as follows:
“It's always a small sense of achievement to have solved someone else's problem.”
The role of Solution Engineer at Dlubal is ideal for career starters with a technical background who want more than just a standard job. Here you will be challenged and encouraged. You have a real impact on projects, customers and software. And you work in an environment where exchange and further development are a natural part of the job.
