Find Your Project's Snow, Wind and Seismic Loads with Google Maps

The Geo-Zone Tool, located on the Snow, Wind and Seismic Zoning Maps webpage, includes zoning maps to quickly determine snow loads, wind speeds and seismic data according to Eurocode and other international standards. 

The search function, based on Google maps, establishes the corresponding location to determine the following:

  • Snow:
    - Snow load zone
    - Snow load sk
  • Wind:
    - Wind zone
    - Basic wind velocity vb,0
    - Basic velocity pressure qb
  • Seismic:
    - Seismic zone
    - Peak ground acceleration agR
    - Subsoil class, etc.

Although data can be manually transferred to external programs, an additional web application is available for automated data transfer.

The Geo-Zone Tool operates with map data services provided by Google LLC. These Google services are not provided free of charge which requires all users to assume this financial responsibility.

    Wind is the only climatic load acting on every single type of structure in the entire world, different from other loads like snow, for example. The wind size depends on the geographical location of the structure. That is one of the main reasons why today’s standards have regional division (wind zones) and consideration of altitude, as well as variation of dynamic pressure depending on the height above ground for a ‘normal’ site, without masking effect.

    The ‘Generate Snow Loads’ function provides the option to consider snow overhang. Thus, the load of the snow overhang is applied automatically to the eaves using distributed load or several nodal loads.

    According to DIN EN 1990/NA:2010‑12 - NDP to A.1.2.1(1) Comment 2, it is necessary to only apply one of the two climatic actions in the combination expressions for actions according to 6.4.3 and 6.5.3 in the case of places located up to +1,000 m above mean sea level if snow and wind are available as collateral actions in addition to non‑climatic leading action.
