School Building on Campus Lorenzo in Leipzig, Germany
This 7-story building, with 57,048.73 ft² of floor space, is used as a vocational school. The dimensions (length x width x height) are approximately 150.92 ft x 65.62 ft x 71.52 ft.

The building was built as a solid structure. The building envelope and the main supporting elements (foundation slab, ceilings, walls, columns, downstand beams, and so on) consist of reinforced concrete using the cast-in-place concrete construction method. The roof structure was designed as a purlin roof.
The building's facade above the ground floor has an inward offset, resulting in a floor area of approximately 150.92 x 56.43 ft. The ground floor, as well as the first and second floors, have different irregular floor plans and no continuous supporting structure. The third and fourth floors have regular floor plans; the facade of the fifth floor has another offset, built as a stacked story.
Structure and Structural Design
The structural analysis was carried out using a 3D model in RFEM, as this program provided the best results for the building's complex structure, including skew columns, irregular floor plans, and the facade's multiple offsets.
The large slab spans and the 5-story facade, which is supported by irregular skew columns, represented the greatest challenges in this project. Loads were partially carried upwards over two floors by means of tension elements, as direct load transfer to the structural components below was impossible. The wooden roof structure was modeled to determine the loading for the solid structure.
