The steel structure of a sluice with flap gate is a part of the new Niederfinow boat lift on the Oder-Havel Canal in Germany, that has been built due to the increasing traffic on the canal as the original structure of the oldest working boat lift in Germany was running near to its capacity.
Structure
The sluice gate is based on pressure used to control the water level of a weir. The flap's width is 7 m, the total width of the construction is 10.4 m. It is possible to dam up water to a maximum height of 5.6 m.
The calculated structure consists of 3,244 nodes, 6 solids, 607 surfaces and 187 members with 7 different cross‑sections. The object has a total weight of approximately 20 tons and is made of steel S 355.
