About Project
The project of expanding the Westfield Černý Most shopping mall involves the extension of the northeastern corner of the building. The new, closed structure expands the existing food court area and covers a flat roof, a skylight, and an inserted floor. The total height of the structure reaches level +17.420 m (57.152 ft), and the steel structure is placed on a new reinforced concrete structure at level +6.150 m (20.177 ft), with pendulum bearings to ensure dilatation motions between the new and existing buildings.
Structural Technical Solution
The structure of the extension consists of a steel system, including truss girders and roof purlins, which form a flat roof. Secondary girders, purlins, and TR150/280 trapezoidal sheet metal are laid on the primary truss girders. In the northwestern part of the building, there is an inserted floor with a similar load-bearing system, including truss beams and IPE joists to support the reinforced concrete slab. The skylight structure is designed as a gable roof frame anchored to the primary truss beams. The facade of the building is a combination of solid and glazed structures, with the glazed part having its own load-bearing structure embedded in the reinforced concrete ceiling. The roof is equipped with a steel attic to cover the air conditioning units. The rigidity of the entire steel structure is ensured by stiffeners in the roof plane and cross stiffeners in the facade walls.
The analysis of the steel structure and design of steel elements were carried out in RFEM.
