Membrane Roof Structure for Children's Playground in Isfahan, Iran

The Savana Group used RFEM to design a prestressed membrane system for a children's playground. The white membrane creates shaded, comfortable areas while also serving as an architectural highlight in the natural surroundings.

This structure is a prestressed membrane system made of white fabric weighing 1,050 grams per square meter. The main structure is designed as a truss system made of S235 steel.
The precise arrangement of the membrane, supported by the central truss structure, creates a shaded and comfortable area for the children’s playground. At night, the warm lighting contributes to a cozy, dynamic, and inviting atmosphere that blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings.

The final form of the structure was developed using RFEM 6 and the Form-Finding add-on. The geometry of the membrane was adjusted and optimized to achieve an ideal distribution of prestressing forces while meeting aesthetic and architectural requirements. The truss configuration not only lends the roof form a rhythmic quality but also ensures efficient force transfer to the foundation.
During the engineering process, nonlinear analyses were performed that accounted for geometric imperfections. Additionally, the risk of water accumulation on the membrane was evaluated, and wind behavior was analyzed using CFD simulations in RWIND.
