The train shed at Munich Central Station is a complex renovation project. The steel structure consists of beams, trusses, longitudinal and transverse stiffeners, as well as metal sheets, complemented by supplementary reinforcements, such as cables. The cables, with a diameter of 40 mm, form a lightweight reinforcement structure that requires minimal installation effort. They run in a polygonal pattern along the main beams, aligned with the moment line. The cable prestressing is 200 kN.
The project also includes reinforced concrete components: Concrete slabs are placed on the roof, and the foundations are located in the lower section. Overall, this is a highly complex structure with over 20,000 members and more than 200 different steel cross-sections.
Thanks to the powerful 3D modeling capabilities in RFEM, all steel and concrete components can be calculated precisely, and the load-bearing capacity of the structure can be efficiently checked.
