You can experience spectacular roller coaster rides on Germany's first Big Dipper Coaster (since May 2019). Since its opening, the approximately 131-foot-high and 547-yard-long coaster has been one of the main attractions in the Plohn amusement park in Vogtland, Saxony.
Skywalk Allgäu is a path with a length of about 1,640 ft, installed at a height of 49 to 98 ft above ground, leading through the treetops of the Allgäu Alps. The path construction, built at approximately 3,281 ft above sea level, consists of cable-stayed and suspension bridge constructions. It is supported by 14 towers guyed with cables. The central point and major tourist attraction is the lookout tower, which is 164 ft high, offering visitors a wonderful view over the Alps, the Prealps, and Lake Constance.
In summer 2012, the first Czech treetop walkway opened in Lipno in the presence of Václav Klaus, then President of the Czech Republic. A path 2,214 ft in length leads to a major tourist attraction: the tree tower.
On the top platform, at a height of 131 ft, visitors can enjoy the wonderful view from the wooden lookout over Šumava National Park and Lipno Dam on the Vltava River. In the center, the tower includes a playground slide 170.6 ft in length, representing the longest closed slide in the Czech Republic.
Many of the stone monuments in the Angkor archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are currently ruins. The condition of the intact monuments is worsening quickly.
Thus, international experts are looking intensively into the causes of the poor technical condition of these important monuments and trying to find suitable solutions to rescue them. The Czech research team is participating in saving these monuments in Angkor as well, with the five‑year research project "Thermal Imaging and Structural Analysis of Sandstone Monuments in Angkor".
The main objective of the project is represented by an analysis of the stone structures' loading due to environmental temperature changes and the influence of this loading on the static safety of the monuments. In addition to the research performed directly in Angkor, numerical simulations of the behavior of stone structures loaded by external actions, focused on the effect of temperature changes, also forms a part of the project.
The structural engineering software RFEM for FEM analysis and design by Dlubal Software was used to create numerical models and carry out the structural analysis. The marina hotel is situated between Friedrichshafen and Lindau, on Lake Constance, one of the most attractive regions in Germany.
However, this exclusive location offers some challenges which must be considered in the structural engineering. For example, actions due to wind and earthquakes are considerably increased in the area around the lake.
In the multi-story administration building, the spatial interaction of the stiffening wall and ceiling surfaces was necessary for stiffening the building.
