1. Who are you?
My name is Bastian Ackermann and I am a support engineer.
2. What education do you have, and how did you come to Dlubal Software?
After graduating from high school, I studied civil engineering with a specialization in structural engineering. After initially working in the field of construction management at another company, I finally wanted to switch to structural engineering. Since I already knew RSTAB from my studies, I applied to Dlubal Software. It was a very good fit.
3. What are your tasks now?
I currently work for customer support. I provide technical support to our customers by phone, email, and chat, and help them with their daily work with Dlubal Software. Moreover, I hold training courses on our programs.
4. What is important in your job?
Apart from the professional and technical knowledge of structural engineering and our programs, it is necessary to be friendly, to understand customers' concerns, and to be convinced of the added value of our programs. This is important.
5. What do you look forward to when you come into work in the morning?
I'm looking forward to the fact that my work is varied and there can be new challenges every day. It's important to ensure that the customer remains enthusiastic and convinced of our programs every day by offering the simplest possible solutions.
6. What excites you about structural engineering in general?
I am excited about the effect of external forces and how they are safely diverted through the structures. You can't see it, but you can imagine it. I think it's fascinating.
7. What has been your best experience?
This is always the case when I'm able to solve a larger problem successfully and to the particular satisfaction of the customer. It also includes certain inquiries, but also training courses that require more intensive preparation. We are always happy to receive positive feedback.
8. What is your hobby, and how can it be combined with your job?
Sports and exercise in the fresh air are very important to me. This cannot be combined directly, but it is the perfect balance to my job.
8. What advice would you give young people for the future?
I think you should always develop personally outside of the technical area and think outside the box. This leaves you open to new ideas, as it is never clear what the future will bring.
10. What is your favorite building?
The Golden Gate Bridge. There are many beautiful bridges, but I think the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is really awesome. First, in a visual way, when the pylons suddenly come out of the mist. And second, it's unbelievable what forces (can) act there.
