Working with Layers (Sheets)

This article describes the functionality of layers in the Dlubal applications, including their creation, management, and use for controlling the visibility and editability of model objects.

Layers in Dlubal Apps are a powerful tool for organizing and structuring model information. They allow you to logically group objects such as members, surfaces, loads, or auxiliary elements and control their visibility and editability specifically. This is particularly helpful in complex models to maintain clarity and make workflows more efficient.

What are Layers in Dlubal Apps?

Layers are comparable to layers in CAD programs. Each model object can be assigned to a specific layer. Through the layer management, you can:

  • Control visibility: Show or hide layers.
  • Restrict editing: Lock layers to avoid accidental changes.
  • Create structure: Organize objects by function, material, or project phase.

Creating and Managing Layers

To work with layers, it is advisable to activate the Layer Manager via the "View | Layer Manager" menu. You can then freely place or dock it in the interface. In the Layer Manager, you can also create and organize the required layers.

Layer Manager Toolbar

The 'Layer Manager' toolbar offers you the following options:

  1. New Layer
  2. Set as current layer
  3. Delete layer
  4. Delete all layers
  5. Show all layers
  6. Hide all layers
  7. Lock all layers
  8. Unlock all layers
  9. Select objects in graphic
  10. Show selected objects in graphic
  11. Display hidden objects in the background
  12. Colors of rendered objects by layers.
  13. Help

Layer Groups

The Layer Manager gives you the ability to organize layers by groups. You can create as many levels of grouping as needed. Assigning a layer to a layer group automatically assigns it to the higher-level groups as well. Layers can be reassigned to another group at any time. A layer can only be assigned to one group strand at a time.

Layer Information of an Object

  • When creating an object, it is always assigned to the current layer.
  • Existing objects can be assigned to a layer via the properties or by multi-select. To do this, please select them and then assign them to the desired layer (4).

The 'Selected Layer' toolbar

  1. Toggle visibility of the selected layer
  2. Lock/unlock the selected layer
  3. Edit the selected layer
  4. Selected layer
  5. Activate layer group filter
