For the “Cable on Pulleys” member type, it is possible to define cable pulleys with specified pulley wheel parameters (D) at discrete intermediate nodes.
Using the new “New Cable Pulley” dialog box, cable pulleys can be configured with the following parameters:
Cable Pulley Parameters
The pulleys are assigned a pulley wheel parameter D in meters. Optionally, the pulley can be configured as a “reverse cable pulley,” in which the cable is routed across the pulley in a crisscross pattern.
Loss Modeling
For each pulley, there are three modeling options for pulley losses to select from:
- None – Friction losses are neglected
- Friction – Axial friction is taken into account based on the shaft diameter d
- Efficiency – Specification of a dimensionless efficiency value ε
RFEM adapts the structural model in the background automatically and generically to the specified pulley diameters. The geometric ratios derived from the pulley diameter and the selected loss models are transparently incorporated into the analysis model without it being necessary for the user to make manual model adjustments.
