Editing Local Axis Systems

Local Axis Systems

You can reverse the local axis system of a surface in the surface shortcut menu. Thus, it is possible to align the z-axis with the interior of the building for each surface, for example.

Tip

Uniform orientation of the local coordinate systems facilitates the subsequent result assignment and interpretation.

For masonry models, make sure that the y-axis is aligned in the direction of the load transfer. This is particularly interesting for the arches, because there the load transfer is in the horizontal direction. Since it is not enough to reverse the coordinate system, you have to activate the "Specific axes" option in the editing dialog box, which you can open by double-clicking the arch surface.

Then, specify in the "Input Axes" tab that the y-axis should be arranged parallel to a line, and select the lower boundary line of the arch as the reference line in the graphic.
