Expansion and Renovation of "Terma Bania" in Białka Tatrzańska, Poland

The structure is designed using the BIM technology. The documentation is exchanged via IFC files.

For this purpose, the structure model was created in REVIT and then exported to RFEM. In RFEM, the loads were applied and the structural elements were calculated and designed.

Construction

The newly designed facility is an extension of the existing "Terma Bania" Water Park with a recreational and dining section. The building was designed as a reinforced concrete, monolithic slab-column structure with a dominant column spacing in the underground section of 6.0 x 7.5m, and in the above-ground section with a spacing corresponding to the span of the roof girders. The spatial stiffness of the building is ensured by two staircases with elevator shafts. The RF-CONCRETE module was used for the dimensioning of the reinforced concrete elements.

Due to the site conditions and the continuation of the current frontage, it was necessary to design a roof covering in an arched form. Due to the planned function of the facility, it was necessary to minimize the number of supports at levels 0 and +1. Consequently, it was decided to design the roof structure as arched girders made of glued laminated timber GL28h with two spans of 16.50m and 22.50m. The roof girders were hinged on reinforced concrete beams. The RF-TIMBER Pro module was used for the dimensioning of the glued laminated timber elements.

Due to the exposure of the building, a glass facade was designed on the southern side. Steel posts were designed as the supporting elements. The roof structure's culmination in the plane of the glass facade is a reinforced concrete beam, with two curvature radii (vertical and horizontal), to which the steel facade posts are additionally suspended. The reinforced concrete beam was modeled using individual segmental reinforced concrete beams and dimensioned with the RF-Concrete Members module as a set of beams, and the steel facade posts with the RF-Steel Members module.

For a facility with diverse construction materials (steel, reinforced concrete, glued laminated timber), performing calculations in the RFEM package streamlined the work on the structural analysis. Changes in the building's structure and loads are conducted in one place, significantly speeding up the work.
